Our Testimonials

Lessons

  • We provide one-to-one lessons, and we also offer small group lessons.
  • Shared lessons can sometimes be arranged.
  • A small group can make tuition cost-effective, and a small group of like-minded students can add to the enjoyment and boost motivation.
  • We offer face-to-face and online, for one-to-one and for group lessons.
  • In most cases, face-to-face lessons are preferred and recommended. In the event of any restrictions on face-to-face lessons, we follow government guidelines and use online platforms such as Zoom.

The 11+ Group Lessons

Our Testimonials

The 11+ Group

  • The 11+ Group consists of 4-5 students who are taken through an educational programme, spanning out across a year. It starts in the October of Year 5.
  • It is specifically designed to prepare students for the 11+ (maths and English) and is consistently aligned with 11+ style questions.
  • Towards the end of the programme, sessions incorporate refreshing of content covered, vital practice papers and exam tips.
  • Although intended for the 11+ exam, it will likely boost students in competence and confidence with Year 5 and Year 6 work and lay a sound foundation for Year 7 and beyond.
  • Sessions either take place at 69 Hermitage Rd, PL3 4RZ (Vivienne Lowe) or 23 Wilderness Rd, PL3 4RN (Clare Taylor). They are both family homes and each have spacious, designated tutoring rooms.
  • The programme is comprised of weekly 90-minute sessions for the most part of the year.
  • Lessons continue through the holidays with a slightly different structure to allow some time off – please see The 11+ Group Schedule for details.
  • Understandably, a student for various reasons, may not be able to attend all sessions. To catch up, they may attend another group session, be set extra work at home or they have the option to pay for a 1-to-1 lesson if they wish to.
  • Each week the students will be taken through a topic, given a chance to practice and ask questions, and then be assigned homework to further practice. They will also be assigned reading: building vocabulary is vital for the 11+, and life.
  • For any 11+ undertaking, the first criteria to ensure would be that your child wants to take on the 11+ and is prepared for the challenge and commitment involved.
  • Once that has been established, the question would be whether a group is suitable: The 11+ group is a fairly fast-paced group and is therefore well suited to the fairly able/above-average student. If you are unsure of your child’s ability, their school teacher should be able to give you a clearer indication.
  • Should a student wish to have regular additional 1-to-1 help, then they are entitled to 20% off individual lessons.
  • The 11+ is always a team activity of the student, tutor and parent. Parents need to be prepared to assist their child at home. Individual guidance will be given to parents of how best to help, and appointments can always be made outside of the group time to discuss progress.

Notepads, worksheets, practice papers and pencils will all be provided.

There is a one-off fee of £20 to cover a comprehensive binder of materials which the programme is based upon. Various 11+ books are also needed along the way which parents will be informed about at the beginning of the programme and as they are needed throughout the year. Approximately these 11+ materials come to a total of £50, spread throughout the year.

  • There is a set amount of homework that will be given but if students/parents wish for more, there will always be a higher-load option available.
  • Homework for each session would be estimated at 1-2 hours a week. This would increase towards the end of the school year and more so over the summer holidays.
  • The 11+ Group lessons are £20 per 90-minute lesson.
  • Online payments are preferred. Payments to be made in advance at the beginning of each half-term,
  • Fill out the Contact us form to ask any further questions or to book a place in The 11+ Group.
  • You can also call 07727106363. Please leave a message or send a text if there is no answer.
